Albireo is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on the development and potential commercialization of novel bile acid modulators to treat orphan paediatric liver diseases and other liver or gastrointestinal diseases and disorders. We have deep expertise in bile acid biology and a pipeline of clinical and nonclinical programs.

Odevixibat is a potent and selective inhibitor of the ileal bile acid transporter (IBAT), sometimes also referred to as the apical sodium dependent bile acid transporter (ASBT), that has minimal systemic exposure at therapeutic doses and acts locally in the gut.

Odevixibat has the potential to become the first approved pharmacologic treatment for patients with PFIC. The Company intends to complete regulatory filings in the EU and in the U.S. no later than early 2021, in anticipation of potential regulatory approval, issuance of a rare pediatric disease priority review voucher and launch in the second half of 2021, if approved. The Company also plans to initiate a pivotal Phase 3 trial of odevixibat in Alagille syndrome by the end of 2020, and to continue enrolling patients in the BOLD pivotal Phase 3 trial of odevixibat in biliary atresia. Albireo continues to progress its pipeline and expects to complete IND-enabling studies for a new preclinical candidate this year.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has granted to the odevixibat PFIC program or elements of it fast track, rare paediatric disease and orphan drug designations. The European Medicines Agency (EMA) has granted odevixibat orphan designation, as well as access to the PRIority MEdicines (PRIME) scheme for the treatment of PFIC. Its Paediatric Committee has agreed to Albireo's odevixibat Pediatric Investigation Plan for PFIC. Both FDA and EMA also have granted orphan drug designation to odevixibat for the treatment of Alagille syndrome and primary biliary cholangitis. Albireo will commercialise Odevixibat in the US, Europe & Canada and will partner in remaining regions.

Job Description

Job Title:          Contracts Manager

Location:            Boston, MA

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • The Contract Manager will be a member of the legal team and will work closely with all members of the legal department, including attorneys. 
  • Oversee contract administration and management on a company-wide basis, and enforce company’s principles of integrity and compliance.
  • Ensure that contracts and proposals are properly entered into and processed in company databases and securely maintained.
  • Work with finance and IT teams to ensure contracts database is linked to purchase order/payment system.
  • Responsible for liaising with, and oversight of, company’s contract management system vendor to ensure operation and upkeep of the contract management system
  • Assist in the development, implementation and training of internal clients on contract templates, department policies and procedures, including contract workflow processes and contract database operations and management.
  • Monitor and advise department managers of contractual rights and obligations as they pertain to their specific agreements.
  • Develop standards for vendor proposals, including presentation of budget and payment terms.
  • Perform appropriate clinical, administrative and operational research to support proposal and contract development.
  • Serve as primary organizational contact during negotiations with vendors on pricing for contracts.
  • Communicate on an ongoing basis with internal clients about contractual issues.


  • Bachelor’s degree in business, healthcare management or related field preferred.
  • Prior work experience in a contract management role, such as purchasing or contracting
  • Experience in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry is preferred
  • Knowledgeable in general contract principles. Familiarity with contracts relevant to the pharmaceutical industry (consulting agreements, confidential disclosure agreements, services agreements, etc.) strongly preferred.
  • Contracts management software and/or database experience required
  • Ability to systematically analyze complex problems, draw relevant conclusions and implement appropriate solutions.
  • Strong verbal and written skills, and ability to convey complex information in a way that others can readily follow.
  • Highly collaborative, positive “can-do” attitude, able to work well with others across functions and with different styles.
  • Proven professional skills, ability to maintain composure in a high-volume, deadline-oriented environment. Excels at multi-tasking. Ability to say “no” diplomatically.
  • Highly organized and strong attention to detail. Self-motivated; ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
